In a UNC Charlotte study of more than 400 convicted burglars, a visible alarm or camera was among the most common reasons for abandoning a target. Visibility works, and it happens only if equipment is installed where someone approaching your building actually sees it. Usable footage is a separate problem. A camera mounted high and wide covers more ground but rarely captures a face clearly enough to identify anyone.
