A Legacy of Service & Innovation
Our founder, Normal Fleenor, started Fleenor Security in his basement with a simple goal: help his neighbors sleep better at night. Working evenings after his day job, he installed alarm systems for families who trusted him with their safety.
His consultative approach set him apart—asking questions, listening carefully, and designing solutions around how people actually lived. He built relationships with local law enforcement and never cut corners.
Today, under second-generation leadership, we honor his founding principle on every project: your security is personal to us.

Where It All Began
Raised on a farm in Bristol, TN, where his family ran Fleenor Eggs, Norman Fleenor learned the value of hard work and innovation early on. His passion for electronics and aviation eventually sparked a new dream, combining technology with security. In 1972, from the basement of his Johnson City home, Norman began installing and servicing security systems on his own. His dedication to quality and customer care quickly earned him a trusted reputation. What started as a one-man operation soon grew to include fire alarms, door access systems, and video surveillance, setting the stage for Fleenor Enterprises to become a leader in safety and security solutions.
Building the Brand
The 1980s marked a transformative decade as Fleenor Enterprises rebranded and became Fleenor Security Systems. After trademarking the name in 1983, the company moved into its first dedicated office on Browns Mill Road in Johnson City. With its first out-of-state license in North Carolina and membership in the TBFAA, Fleenor quickly became a driving force in the industry. As demand grew, the team expanded, adding more vehicles, salesmen, and technicians, while strengthening its advertising efforts. By the decade’s end, Fleenor had established itself as a trusted name in security, laying the foundation for future growth.
Scaling New Heights
The 90s marked a period of significant growth and transformation for Fleenor Security Systems. In 1990, the company relocated to a larger facility at Morgan Court in Johnson City, expanding its workforce to 20 employees. This location served as their headquarters until 2024.
During this decade, Will Fleenor joined the company and, alongside Norman, played a crucial role in driving operations and innovation. Fleenor became an authorized dealer of First Alert Pro, reached $1 million in revenue by 1994, and acquired its own local central station. In 1997, they obtained a Virginia license and enhanced all departments through improved training and systems. By the end of the decade, Fleenor grew to 44 employees and implemented aggressive marketing strategies.
Innovation in Action
The 2000s saw Fleenor embracing technological advancements and forming strategic partnerships with larger dealers. They implemented their own secure wireless network for alarm reporting called Fastbell and reached $5 million in revenue by mid-decade. In 2008, Fleenor was featured on the cover of Security Dealer Magazine. Throughout the decade, they focused on innovation, customer service, and workforce expansion.
Strengthening the Standard
Fleenor enhanced its branding efforts to establish a strong visual presence while upholding its trusted reputation.
In 2014, Fleenor achieved major milestones by ranking #100 on the SDM 100 list of top security companies in the U.S. and continued to climb higher in subsequent years.
Becoming a UL-listed central station further cemented Fleenor’s credibility and commitment to the highest standards.
Fleenor opened a new office in Knoxville in 2017, expanding its marketing reach and intensifying regional marketing efforts. Throughout the decade, Fleenor left its mark by championing local initiatives and showing dedication to its community.
Legacy in Motion
The 2020s marked a decade of resilience and growth for Fleenor Security Systems. Thriving through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company remained a leader in the security industry. In 2022, Fleenor celebrated 50 years of service, marking the beginning of a new chapter as Norman Fleenor named his son, Will, president. Under his leadership, the company grew to over 100 employees across Knoxville and Johnson City. By 2024, Fleenor reached another milestone, opening a 20,000 sq ft headquarters to better serve the region and attract top talent.
